Good morning Oppo! I have a friend who needs our help finding a car.
His online handle RackAttack. He's an autocrosser and sim racer, and in 2012 was one of the final 4 contestants at GT Academy. He's looking for a 370Z, but I'll let him handle the details:
I'm on the hunt for a 370z to replace the RX-8. I'm pretty excited about it. Of course being an autocrosser, I have a very specific set of filters to get
just
the right car for classing purposes:
Base model (Touring adds 50lbs)
Sport Package (for better diff, bigger wheels, and SynchroRev Match, which I test drove and is extremely cool)
'09-'12 (it got 50lbs heavier in '13)
And my color preferences aren't making it easy... Go look at autotrader and tell me how many red/blue/yellow ones you see. Then count the black/silver/white/grey ones. It's depressing to me.
He's in Southern California, but I would imagine he'll go pick up a car from wherever.

Well there were 4 finalists. I'm good friends with Austin. Steve won. I remember Jett. I did not remember the 4th finalist. He would be the 4th finalist that I don't remember.

I own a '11 370Z. Having previously owned several other sports cars, I absolutely love it. Visit the370Z.com, which is the best forum for this car. Don't get an '09 cause they have several issues which were fixed on later cars. The '09 to '11 cars have some known issues but they aren't insurmountable. The steering lock is known to fail, and the simple fix is to remove a fuse before it does fail (research on the forum for details). There is a fuel starvation problem on long right hand sweepers on less than 1/4 tank. This is fixed by either keeping enough fuel in the tank, not driving hard long rights on low fuel, or more expensive tank/pickup mods. The engine is prone to overheating on heavy use due to inadequate cooling. Most people who track add an aftermarket oil cooler (which became standard on '12 cars). The brakes are known to overheat during heavy use. Most people who track add brake cooling ducts and high temp fluid. The sport package LSD is viscous, so while fine for road use, may be inadequate for track use. Some people upgrade to quaffe diff for the track. Sport package is definitely worth the cost for reasons he listed, and touring package is really just if you want the better audio and alcantara interior.

lol, Jeff finished last in the final race. Typical race driver, blames the car.
We've sim raced together for a couple of years now.

Glad I made such an impression ;-)

I was rooting for Austin and the cameras loved Jett. I wouldn't know Steve if he hadn't won.

Thanks for the very useful information Chteelers! I've been monitoring the for sale section of the370z.com for awhile, and will continue to do so. I had heard about the fuel starvation issue, very annoying! Is that fixed in later year cars?

Haha, no worries. I'm a quiet person, they didn't put me on the show as much as some of the other guys.

Not to my knowledge. The fuel tank is very V-shaped, and also has a hump at the bottom, and the pickup can go dry when all the fuel gets sloshed to the one side, even with 1/4 tank of fuel. Problem is that once it gets starved, the fuel pump can seize and then you're stuck roadside. My general impression is that its worse on '09 cars, and less bad on '10-'12 cars. Most 'stuck' people had '09s. I have had my '11 car stumble from fuel starvation, but it didn't die completely, and I had very little fuel. The aftermarket fix is relatively expensive cause it involves changes to the tank and pickup (a few hundred $ IIRC). It hasn't been an issue for me. I just fillup before the low fuel light (< 1/16th tank) comes on, and if I do get that low, I just don't take offramps at full throttle. Normal driving is no problem even at very low gas.
